What size leisure battery do I need for a camper van?
Most weekend campers with lights, a 12V fridge and phone charging are well served by 100 to 150Ah of lithium. Working from the van with a laptop and Starlink usually needs 200 to 300Ah, and cooking on electric or winter trips without hook-up needs 400Ah or more.
Can I run an induction hob from a leisure battery?
Yes, with a 3000W pure sine inverter and at least 300 to 400Ah of lithium. A hob draws around 150A from a 12V battery, so the fuse and cable must be sized for it.
Do lithium leisure batteries work in winter?
They discharge fine in the cold, but standard LiFePO4 cells must not be charged below freezing. For winter trips, choose a battery with built-in heated cells.
