Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to charge an electric car at a motorway service station?
On a 150 kW or faster charger, adding 100 miles takes around 10 to 12 minutes in the quickest 800-volt cars like the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6, 15 to 20 minutes in most modern family EVs, and 35 minutes or more in older or budget models with slower charging.
Why do 10 to 80 percent times matter more than peak kW?
Peak kW is only held for a few minutes. The average speed across the 10 to 80 percent window is what decides how long you actually wait, so that is what this tool uses.
How accurate are these charging times?
They are typical figures for a warm battery on a charger fast enough for the car. Cold batteries, busy shared chargers or older units can add several minutes. Treat them as a good guide, not a guarantee.
